terms of service

last updated aug 24, 2026

your agreement

these terms are the agreement between you and really nice, the company that makes totem. they cover the totem app and this site, totemdreams.com. using either means you accept them.

eligibility

totem is for adults: you must be 18 or older. you’re responsible for using totem lawfully wherever you live.

what totem is

totem is a nightly practice for lucid dreaming — a story at lights out, a question each morning, and reality checks through the day. it’s a wellness product: it doesn’t diagnose or treat any condition, and no app can promise you a lucid dream, including this one.

your license

you get a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use totem for yourself. don’t copy it, sell it, scrape it, reverse-engineer it, or build a competing product out of it without our written permission.

the app store

you get totem through apple’s app store, but this agreement is between you and us — apple has no obligation to maintain or support the app. apple may enforce these terms as a third-party beneficiary.

your account and email

keep your account information accurate and current. non-essential email can always be declined — use the unsubscribe link, or tell support.

subscriptions

totem is $89.99 a year after seven free nights, or $9.99 a week billed today. subscriptions renew until you cancel in your app store settings, and refunds follow apple’s rules.

your journal

your entries are yours. you grant us only the license needed to store and sync them for you. we never sell them, never train on them, and never show them to anyone.

stories and information

the stories are generated, and the research pages are informational. none of it is medical, psychological, or professional advice — totem supports a practice, it doesn’t guarantee an outcome.

acceptable use

don’t break the law, infringe anyone’s rights, harass anyone, spread malware, attack or overload the service, harvest data from it, or use it to build something that competes with it.

what we own

really nice owns totem — the app, this site, the design, the stories, and the marks. totem is a mark of really nice. nothing in these terms transfers ownership to you beyond your license.

feedback

if you send us ideas or suggestions, we can use them without restriction or payment — and you promise you’re allowed to share them.

third-party services

totem relies on and links to services we don’t control. we’re not responsible for their acts, content, policies, or availability.

service changes

totem changes as it grows. we may update, suspend, or retire features. if a change removes something you’ve paid for, we’ll tell you before it lands.

disclaimers

totem is provided as is and as available. we disclaim every warranty the law lets us disclaim — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.

limitation of liability

to the extent the law allows, we’re not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including lost profits or lost data. our total liability is capped at the greater of what you paid us in the last 12 months or $50 usd.

indemnity

if your misuse of totem or violation of these terms brings a claim against us, you’ll defend and indemnify us and our people against it.

termination

we can suspend or end access for violations, for risk to the service or its users, or if the service winds down. the sections on ownership, disclaimers, liability, and indemnity survive.

your local rights

some places give you consumer rights that can’t be waived — these terms don’t touch those. if part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.

changes to these terms

updated terms take effect when they’re posted here unless we say otherwise. continuing to use totem means you accept them.
